Takeout Date Check
Find out how many photos and videos in your Google Takeout export are missing a date, before you buy anything.
Choose the folder you unzipped your Takeout into. The check reads up to 100 of your photos and videos and their .json files, then shows how many would get a date from Takeout Date Restorer and how many already have one.
Your files stay on your computer. The page reads the folder inside your browser. It uploads none of your files and changes none of them, and the check sets no cookies and stores nothing. It needs JavaScript turned on, and desktop Chrome or Edge.
Unzip your Takeout download first (all parts into one folder), then choose the folder that contains Google Photos. Choosing the top-level Takeout folder also works; it looks inside every folder.

Your check
What it checks, and what it does not
- It looks at JPEG, PNG, MP4 and MOV files. Other formats, such as HEIC, are counted as ones the tool does not write.
- If the folder holds more than 100 photos and videos, the check reads 100 of them, spread evenly across the folders, and says so. The counts then describe that sample, not your whole library.
- It reads each file's own metadata, its Takeout
.jsonfile and its file name. It cannot tell whether a date in Google's data is correct. - It reads every PNG in full, so a folder of large screenshots takes much longer to check than a folder of JPEGs.
